A recent ranking has stirred controversy among Montreal Canadiens fans, as Thomas Roost, a writer for a Swiss website named MySports, published his list of the NHL’s best prospects at the age of 25.

It’s safe to say that this ranking has not been unanimously accepted, and for two reasons.

While the Canadiens have seven players among the top 60, Nick Suzuki is excluded from this list because it comprises players aged 23 and younger. The ranking of two players has caused reactions.

47. Cole Caufield

54. Alex Newhook

56. Sean Farrell

60. Lane Hutson

What particularly sparks discussion is the position of Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson, who are ranked 47th and 60th, respectively. However, they are considered to be among the Canadiens’ best prospects.

Cole Caufield is seen as a potential future 50-goal scorer, and Hutson could play a prominent role in the Canadiens’ defensive brigade, with some even comparing him to a future Quinn Hughes.

It must be acknowledged that these types of rankings are always subjective, and they rarely achieve unanimous agreement. Nevertheless, it is still very interesting to see Juraj Slavkovsky ranked as high as 17th. Although he is a long-term project that requires patience for his development, it is evident that the tall Slovakian could become a force in the NHL at the age of 25.
