The world of sports journalism has been going through extremely difficult times over the past few months, with news of numerous layoffs from various media networks, including many highly skilled journalists who unfortunately lost their jobs.

Well, another major news has just emerged today as the prestigious New York Times, one of the largest newspapers and sports departments in the United States, has shut down.

Wow! It’s truly a catastrophe in the sports industry, and it doesn’t bode well for the future considering that a giant like the NY Times has suddenly eliminated the entire department.

Many people in the industry simply can’t believe this major announcement.

While it’s not comparable in terms of impact, to put it into perspective, it’s like if La Presse or the Journal de Montréal decided to cut their sports department from their newspaper.
