Catching the Torch: Archambault Attacks

| March 5, 2013

by Robert Rice, Senior Writer, All Habs Hockey Magazine

TORONTO, ON — This week in review (February 25th – March 3rd), top honours belong to a prospect who continues to go between high and low points on his season.

Your comments are most welcome. If you have a question about any of the prospects email me, and perhaps it will be answered in the weekly All Habs Mailbag feature that appears on these pages on Thursdays.

The Three Stars

1. LW Olivier Archambault Olivier Archambault23 Catching the Torch: Archambault Attacks

Never quite a standout player in the Quebec Major Junior ranks this season, Archambault is still quite capable of exciting bursts with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Archambault would begin the week scoring two goals and an assist in a 6-0 whitewash of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Archambault would next go without a point in a 2-1 win over the Quebec Remparts. Archambault would enjoy another three-point game to end his week, scoring a goal and two assists in an eventual 6-5 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Archambault’s three assists this week raise him to 34 on his season, a new career high and is 2nd in team scoring for Drummondville. Olivier Archambault was drafted in the 4th round, 108th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.

2. D Magnus Nygren

Magnus Nygren continues to be one of the best offensive defencemen in the Swedish Elitserien this season and a leading source of offence for Färjestads BK. Nygren would go without a point in his first game of the week in a 3-2 loss to Skellefteå AIK. Nygren would pick up an assist in the next game in a 4-3 loss to Timrå IK. Nygren would mark his first two-assist game of the season to end the week, than topped it off scoring the shootout-winning goal in a 4-3 victory over Luleå HF. Nygren’s 13 goals this season leads all Elitserien defencemen in goals and is 4th overall in defensive scoring. Nygren was drafted in the 4th round, 113th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.

3. D Nathan Beaulieu

While his offensive production has been on and off with the Hamilton Bulldogs this season while assuming a more varied role for the team, Nathan Beaulieu is still no stranger to the scoresheet. Beaulieu would have his first 2-goal game in the AHL on Tuesday night, including picking up the game-winning goal in a 4-3 victory over the St. John’s IceCaps. Beaulieu would add an assist in a 3-2 loss to the Binghamton Senators in his next game, before missing the next due to an arm injury he suffered against Binghamton. Beaulieu’s 19 points this season has him as the defensive scoring leader for the Hamilton Bulldogs. Nathan Beaulieu was drafted in the 1st round, 17th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft.
